You can report damage if you believe the municipality of Apeldoorn is responsible. For example:

  • Due to an error on the part of the local authority (such as during roadworks);
  • Because of something the local authority should have done but failed to do (such as maintenance).

Examples of situations:

  • A council-owned tree falls on your car due to a lack of maintenance;
  • Your property is damaged as a result of excavation work;
  • A council vehicle causes damage.

Please note:

Was the damage caused by a company carrying out work on behalf of Apeldoorn City Council? If so, the council is usually not liable. In that case, we advise you to contact the company in question directly.

If you do not know which company carried out the work, please state this in your report. If we can identify which company it was and you give us your consent, we will forward your report (including photos, personal details, etc.) to that company. They can then work with you to resolve the damage.

Tip: Make sure you also report the damage to your own insurance company

  • Your insurance company often pays out more quickly;
  • Sometimes there are terms and conditions that are more favourable to you.
  • Your insurer can claim the damages from the local authority on your behalf;
  • Do you have legal aid? They can help you draft your application and with the subsequent procedures.

In order to assess your request properly, we require the following information:

You must provide evidence of:

  • What the damage is;
  • What the costs are and that they are reasonable;
  • Why the local authority is liable for the damage.

Please therefore include all the relevant information:

  • Description of what happened (where, when, how);
  • Photos of the damage and the location (please indicate the direction in which you were walking or driving if you were a road user);
  • Vehicle registration number (in the event of damage to the vehicle);
  • Witness statements (if available);
  • Receipts for damaged items;
  • Quotations or invoices for repairs;
  • Information about your insurance;
  • Whether you are the owner of the damaged property (or on whose behalf you are reporting it);

Information about previous reports made to the local authority (date, contact person, details).
