Brummelhof has a unique atmosphere. Some of the streets are quite old, dating back to when this was still countryside. However, a great deal of new development took place in the 20th century. This makes it a very diverse neighbourhood. Almost 3,500 people live there.
Many people enjoy living here. Relations with neighbours are generally good. The town centre is nearby. And there are plenty of local amenities within the neighbourhood itself. Take the Ons Honk community centre, for example. It’s home to the Zuid Doet Samen neighbourhood co-operative, which plays a vital role in the neighbourhood.
At the same time, there are social challenges. Older people, in particular, sometimes suffer from loneliness. And relations between residents of social housing are not always good. Some experience nuisance and struggle with problems.
Brummelhof doesn’t have any parks, but it does have a green outdoor area. Residents are pleased with this. However, maintenance is needed in various places. Some paths, play areas and other spots are in need of a spruce-up.
Many homes in the neighbourhood are older and often not well insulated. This is certainly true of some of the rental properties. The neighbourhood needs to be made more sustainable. This will reduce energy costs and improve the quality of life for residents.
There are a number of areas in Brummelhof where traffic conditions are unsafe. People are also experiencing problems with parking, for example from visitors to the city centre. Together, we can find solutions to these issues.
Together with residents and a wide range of organisations, we will be tackling these and other issues. ‘Contributors’ play an important role in this. These are residents who want to actively contribute their ideas and get involved. We have drawn up a plan of action setting out the measures we will be taking over the coming years.
The following points will receive particular attention. First and foremost, we are working to preserve Brummelhof’s unique character. We are looking at how we can maintain a strong sense of community. Where necessary, we will improve public spaces. We are also focusing on sustainability in the neighbourhood. We are working to ensure good accessibility and good local facilities. And we are focusing on road safety and a safe neighbourhood.
