A healthy breakfast, every day and for every child

The National School Breakfast is a nationwide breakfast event whose mission is to provide a healthy breakfast, every day and for every child. During Breakfast Week, primary schools, childcare centres and year 7 classes across the Netherlands sit down together for a healthy breakfast and an engaging lesson on the best way to start the day. This helps children learn, in a fun and festive way, just how important a good breakfast is and what’s best to eat in the morning.

The breakfast pack is put together in line with the ‘Wheel of Five’ guidelines and contains a selection of healthy breakfast items. Along with the breakfast pack, schools receive engaging teaching materials for all year groups. This makes breakfast even more fun and nutritious!

Together, we’re working hard to show just how important it is to start the day on a healthy note.

School meals

Every child should be given the opportunity to develop to the best of their ability. Regardless of where they grow up or the income of their parents or carers. Primary and secondary schools with pupils from disadvantaged neighbourhoods can apply for a grant to provide a meal. In this way, the government aims to ensure that no child has to sit in class on an empty stomach. The Netherlands Nutrition Centre welcomes this initiative and can help schools to implement it in a healthy and sustainable way. For more information, visit schoolmeals.nl.
