Highest point reached in the construction of the Korenpassage

Construction of the Korenpassage in Apeldoorn city centre has reached its highest point. The 26 new townhouses are taking shape. During a celebratory event, the flag was raised to mark the reaching of the highest point. Attention was also drawn to a new mural on Nieuwstraat.

New townhouses in the heart of the city

Twenty-six townhouses are to be built on the site of the former Korenpassage. The properties will comprise a range of different types, and each will have its own garden. A green courtyard garden will be created between the houses, featuring a walking route linking Korenstraat and Mariastraat.

The new homes will breathe new life into this part of the city centre. Housing, green spaces and places for people to meet come together here. The green courtyard garden will be open to the public, thereby becoming part of the city centre’s public space.

Councillor Peter Messerschmidt
“A new place to live is taking shape here, with space for greenery and art. The mural gives the area its own distinctive character. Reaching the highest point of the building is a wonderful moment to pause and reflect on this together.”

A remarkable mural

During the topping-out ceremony, attention was also drawn to a new mural on Nieuwstraat. Artists from Studio ZEPA were hard at work on the artwork, which stands over 8 metres tall, during the ceremony Royal Green & Purple. After the flag-raising ceremony and the speeches, Councillor Peter Messerschmidt helped paint a section of the artwork.

The mural incorporates patterns from the palace gardens of Het Loo. In this way, the artwork pays homage to Apeldoorn’s royal history. The two hands in the design symbolise the passing on of creativity, craftsmanship and the joy of creation.

The mural is an initiative of the ACEC Foundation, Rabobank Apeldoorn, the Royal Talens Foundation and Apeldoorn City Council. Current and future residents were able to choose from three designs. The design by Studio ZEPA was selected.

Further planning

Construction of the homes will continue over the coming period. Completion is currently scheduled for the end of the second or the start of the third quarter of 2027.
