The Grote Kerk provided a fitting backdrop for the celebration. For a hundred years now, the voices of the ACM have been heard at concerts, church services, celebrations and commemorations in Apeldoorn and beyond. The Apeldoorn Christian Men’s Choir was founded on 4 May 1926. Seven men laid the foundations for an association that, a century later, is still active. Over the years, the repertoire has expanded from sacred music to include opera, operetta, musicals, spirituals and folk music, amongst other genres.
The ACM is therefore not only a choir, but also an established fixture within Apeldoorn’s community life. Generations of members have dedicated themselves to the association and to its many performances and activities. The Royal Medal of Honour is a token of appreciation for that long-standing commitment and significance, and is intended for everyone who has been involved with the choir over the past hundred years: members, board members, conductors, volunteers and others involved.
A century ago, the first note was struck. A century later, it still resonates. The Royal Medal of Honour marks a special recognition of a century of music, commitment and the strength of the association.
