National Youth Care Monument ‘De Erkenning’ in Apeldoorn

The monument is an initiative of the NMGJ Foundation and is intended to help ensure that the experiences of children and young people in youth care remain a focus of attention, and to promote a safe living environment for future generations. The ceremony was attended by, among others, Minister Mirjam Sterk of Long-Term Care, Youth and Sport, representatives of the foundation, experts by experience, and parents, brothers, sisters and other relatives.

A place of recognition and responsibility

The monument is a place of recognition, contemplation and reflection. It provides a space for the stories and experiences of children and young people who have faced violence within the youth care system. At the same time, it serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to continue working towards a safe environment for children and young people, both now and in the future.

Unveiling and a moment of silence

The official unveiling was carried out by the minister, together with representatives of the National Monument to Violence in Youth Care Foundation. The unveiling was followed by a minute’s silence. Visitors were then given the opportunity to view the monument and engage in conversation with one another.
