Start of renovation work on the HEMA building marks an important step for Stadspark Oranjerie

The refurbishment of the HEMA building on Hoofdstraat officially began today. The building, a listed monument and a landmark in the city centre, is thus set to embark on a new chapter. The building plays a key role in the development of Stadspark Oranjerie, the new green urban neighbourhood set to emerge in the heart of Apeldoorn over the coming years.

To enable the development of Stadspark Oranjerie, the current Oranjerie complex will eventually be demolished. The refurbished HEMA building offers a number of businesses from the Oranjerie complex the opportunity to set up shop in one of the prime locations on Apeldoorn’s main shopping street. At the same time, this striking, listed building will be preserved for the city centre.

“Here, we are literally building the future of the city centre. It’s great to see that the listed HEMA building continues to play a prominent role and that the completion of the Stadspark Oranjerie is another step closer.”

Over the coming years, Stadspark Oranjerie will be transformed into a green urban neighbourhood featuring 450 new homes, space for businesses, hospitality venues and amenities, all linked to an attractive city park. The project forms part of the broader ambition to turn the city centre into Apeldoorn’s Stadspark: a centre where urban dynamism and green spaces go hand in hand.
