TeamNL rounds off the Para-Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn with six medals

The Para-Track Cycling World Championships at Omnisport Apeldoorn have come to an end. From Thursday 29 October to Sunday 1 November, 240 athletes from 46 countries travelled to Apeldoorn to compete for the world titles and the coveted rainbow jerseys. TeamNL finished the World Championships with six medals: four gold, one silver and one bronze.

During the World Championships, athletes with physical or visual impairments competed against one another. The programme featured various sprint and endurance events, both individual and team-based. With the Para-Track Cycling World Championships, Apeldoorn served as the international stage for this sport for four days.

Four world titles for the Netherlands

Hidde Buur was the most successful Dutch competitor. He won gold in both the sprint and the 1-kilometre time trial in the C2 category. Aniek van den Aarssen also claimed a world title. She was the fastest in the 1-kilometre time trial in the C3 category.

In the B category, in which athletes with visual impairments ride a tandem with a sighted pilot, Tristan Bangma and Patrick Bos won gold in the individual pursuit. They also won silver together in the 1-kilometre time trial.

Anne Martha Blok made her World Championships debut all the more special. She immediately won a bronze medal in the 1-kilometre time trial in the C3 category.

Athletes in various categories

In track cycling, riders compete in different categories. In the C category, riders use standard bicycles, sometimes with minor technical modifications. The B category is for riders with a visual impairment. They ride a tandem with a sighted pilot.

The competitions at Omnisport brought together athletes from 46 countries. They competed at the highest level for the world titles and demonstrated what is possible in para-sport.
