Five minutes a month – enjoy your appliances for five years longer

A new event on the calendar for Apeldoorn residents: the ‘Machine Moment’. By spending five minutes looking after your washing machine and/or dishwasher on the fifth of the month, these appliances can last up to five years longer on average. That is the message of a new campaign by Apeldoorn City Council, which aims to show residents that proper maintenance doesn’t have to take much time.

Apeldoorn City Council is introducing the ‘Machine Moment’: a new item on the calendar that can yield surprisingly good results. By carrying out a simple maintenance routine once a month, washing machines and dishwashers can last up to five years longer on average.

The idea behind ‘Machine Moment’ is simple: on the 5th of every month, take five minutes to give your appliance a quick service. A cleaning programme removes soap scum, grease and other built-up grime. This helps appliances to continue performing at their best and may prevent costly repairs.

European cooperation

The ‘Machinemomentje’ initiative was developed as part of the European E6 project, in which Apeldoorn City Council is working with partners from several European countries to reduce electronic waste. Extending the lifespan of appliances plays an important role in this.
This campaign was developed in collaboration with the central government.

Over the coming period, you may come across ‘Machinemomentje’ on social media and in outdoor advertising in Apeldoorn.

Have you already marked the 5th of the month in your diary?
