Welcome to Apeldoorn, Louise! Our 170,000th resident

The municipality of Apeldoorn has reached a special milestone: the municipality now has 170,000 residents. It’s a milestone that, as a municipality, is certainly worth pausing to reflect on. A large number, which suddenly took on a very special face. The 170,000th resident of Apeldoorn is in fact a baby girl called Louise, who lives in Loenen with her father, mother and proud big brother Thijn.

It is, incidentally, difficult to pinpoint the exact figure for such a milestone. Apeldoorn’s population is constantly changing due to births, deaths and people moving into or out of the municipality. Nevertheless, for us, Louise is the face of this special milestone.

Mayor Ton Heerts therefore paid a visit to Louise’s proud parents to congratulate them in person on this special occasion. Naturally, he brought a few presents with him, including some for her brother Thijn.

Mayor Ton Heerts
“A warm welcome to Apeldoorn! You’re part of a very special milestone right from the start. We wish you and your parents every happiness together.”

From 100,000 to 170,000 inhabitants

Apeldoorn has a long history of population growth. In 1958, we celebrated our 100,000th resident. This was followed by the milestones of 125,000, 150,000 and 160,000. At the end of 2021, we passed the 165,000 mark, and now our population stands at 170,000. Once again, it is a birth that makes this milestone particularly special.

Space for people

170,000 residents is more than just a round figure. They are 170,000 people who, together, make up Apeldoorn. People who live here, work here, meet one another and grow up here. With ‘Space for people’ as its guiding principle, Apeldoorn aims to be a municipality where people can enjoy living, with space to get involved and look out for one another.

Apeldoorn’s growth is therefore not just about numbers, but above all about the people who bring the town to life day in, day out. From the city centre to the villages and from the Veluwe to the IJssel: more and more people are calling Apeldoorn home. And for Louise, that story has only just begun.
