De Hoofdstraat: a green corridor stretching from the station to Paleis het Loo

What is Parkstraat?

Parkstraat is a place where living, working and leisure come together. Parkstraat runs from Stationsplein to Paleis het Loo, the current Hoofdstraat and Loolaan. A long, green corridor lined with various new and existing squares and spaces, such as Stationspark (Stationsplein and surrounding area), Kerkpark (Mariakerk and surrounding area) and Groot Beekpark (Caterplein, Orpheus/Grote Kerk). Hoofdstraat forms the long ribbon between them. ‘Parkstraat’ is the name of the development and does not replace the current street names, such as Hoofdstraat and Stationsstraat.

Parkstraat is a development we will be working on over the coming years

The Parkstraat is a long-term development comprising several sub-projects that we will be working on over the next 15 years. In 2022, we began preparations for Parkstraat-Zuid. By this we mean the section of Hoofdstraat stretching from Stationsplein to the Oranjerie. What exactly will Parkstraat-Zuid look like? We have been working hard on this together with business owners, property owners, residents, stakeholders and interested parties.

Of course, we’d like to get started here too, but we first need clarity on certain developments in this area. For example, regarding the building plans opposite the McDonald’s. Or the impact of the proposed traffic measures in the mobility plan on this part of the city. We are currently working through all these issues, but they are taking a lot of time.

Parkstraat is part of a wider area

Parkstraat is a development we will be working on over the coming years and forms part of the plans set out in the Development Plan for Apeldoorn City Park (pdf, 12.4 MB). With the city park, Apeldoorn is continuing to develop into a unique city with a distinct character. A city centre that remains easily accessible is part of that. The ‘Apeldoorn City Park’ development plan forms part of the Environmental Vision. The Environmental Vision describes how Apeldoorn is set to develop in the run-up to 2040. Apeldoorn’s city centre forms an important part of this. That is why a separate development plan has been drawn up for this area.
