A long-term parking solution for Berg & Bos Park

Over the years, various options have been considered, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. In October 2024, the Municipal Executive decided to proceed with the final solution on J.C. Wilslaan. All parties involved agreed to proceed with the further development of this option. The Executive Committee also discontinued its investigation into a multi-storey car park at that time. A multi-storey car park proved unfeasible due to nitrogen regulations. The Executive Committee discussed these decisions with the City Council on 21 November. You can this review rewatch.

Apenheul is taking over the management of the car park and ‘spillover parking’

In addition to this, the council decided in the summer of 2025 that Apenheul would take over the management and organisation of parking. This applies both to parking in the car park and to so-called ‘spillover parking’ on J.C. Wilslaan on the busiest days. Up to and including the 2025 season, this was the responsibility of the local authority. Accres carried out this task on behalf of the local authority. Apenheul will manage the car park under a long-term lease. The local authority will remain the owner of the site.

New layout of J.C. Wilslaan

The council is, however, still responsible for the works on J.C. Wilslaan, which are due to take place from February 2026. For example, a natural filter layer will be installed in the ground to prevent groundwater contamination. The council is also using this opportunity to slightly narrow the carriageway and widen the cycle paths. The works will be completed in time for the new Apenheul season.

During a public consultation meeting in May 2025, local residents were informed about the new road design and how traffic will be channelled along J.C. Wilslaan on peak days. When car parks P1 to P4 are full, traffic coming from the direction of the roundabout at AGOVV will be channelled via the main car park to J.C. Wilslaan. This means that no traffic will be routed through the neighbourhood.

Work on P4

From February 2026, work will also begin on section P4 of the car park. This will enable us to further optimise parking in this part of the car park. We will be installing grass pavers with clear parking bay markings and semi-paved traffic lanes. This will ensure a consistent look across the entire car park and help ensure that motorists make the best use of P4 even when no parking assistance is available.

At the end of January, advance warning and diversion signs were put up in connection with the roadworks on J.C. Wilslaan.
