Phase 2: Basic design – takes approximately 24 months
TenneT is further developing the preferred site, and consultancy firms are carrying out additional research. Once this is complete, we will know exactly where the cables need to be laid underground. We can then move on to the next phase. If a council decision is taken in 2026, it is expected that TenneT will not be able to start work on the basic design until 2028 at the earliest.
Phase 3: Detailed design and preparation – takes approximately 12 months
TenneT is working on the route in further detail. The design will then be detailed enough to reach agreements with landowners and users. We will also be able to amend zoning plans or environmental plans, apply for permits and make the necessary preparations.
Phase 4: Construction and completion – takes approximately 24 months
We then look for contractors and suppliers to carry out the work. Once we’ve done that, the work really gets underway: the cables are laid underground by digging or drilling. Once the cables have been installed, they are connected to the feed-in point(s) or a substation. If everything is working properly, the underground connection can be used. We then remove the old high-voltage pylons.
