More Homes, Faster

Apeldoorn Municipality has received additional funding from central government for the further development of the Veldhuis and Kayersmolen Noord areas. This comprises a total contribution of 8.3 million from the so-called Housing Construction Incentive (WBI) and a contribution of 1,000 euros per home from the Province of Gelderland. Councillor Nathan Stukker: “This is fantastic news for our growing city!”

Strong growth

Based on current growth trends, Apeldoorn is expected to reach a population of 180,000 sooner than was anticipated for 2040. That is why we will be adding new residential and commercial areas in the coming years.

Housing construction as a driver of wider development

Housing construction acts as a catalyst for the wider development of these areas. It requires improvements to the infrastructure and more facilities, which will benefit economic activity in these areas. Wim Willems, Councillor for Mobility: “It’s fantastic that we can do this in Apeldoorn; it’s a huge boost for housing and also for mobility. With this investment, we can actually put into practice our ambitions for smart and sustainable transport in the Kayersmolen Noord and Veldhuis areas.”

Rental and owner-occupied properties in various categories

The contribution towards the developments in Veldhuis and Kayersmolen Noord will enable the construction of at least 1,400 homes. In Apeldoorn, construction goes hand in hand with greening, creating a new urban character for the city with greater variety in the types and heights of buildings. Alderman for Housing Nathan Stukker: “This is fantastic news for Apeldoorn as the capital of the Veluwe. With this contribution, we can realise our ambitions for Apeldoorn’s growth. And we will ensure that rental and owner-occupied homes become available for house-hunters across various categories.”

Collaboration with developers and housing associations

Wim Willems: “We are convinced that the city can only be developed through close collaboration with market players. The quality of those relationships makes all the difference. These plans are the result of intensive collaboration with developers and housing associations. Without their commitment and support, we would not have been able to achieve this result.”

Veldhuis: a key player in the development of the Spoorzone

The neighbourhood’s location within the city – on the Apeldoorns Canal and close to the station and city centre – makes Veldhuis a special and attractive site for new developments. The old industrial buildings also lend the neighbourhood a unique atmosphere. The Spoorzone offers excellent opportunities to develop housing alongside businesses, amenities and educational facilities. Thanks to additional investment from central government, development in this area is assured for the coming years and 750 homes will be built.

Kayersmolen Noord: building on the banks of the canal

The canal banks and the railway line offer space to meet the demand for housing in Apeldoorn. In this area, we are transforming outdated industrial sites into predominantly residential areas. The guiding principles here are green, healthy, communal and vibrant. Apartment blocks of varying heights will be built. The ground floors of the buildings will house a variety of functions. In this area too, attention is being paid to cultural heritage, and old buildings will be preserved. Around 650 new homes will be built in this area.
