Works on Europaweg

Works on Europaweg

The Europaweg is in need of a new road surface. That is why the contractor Van Gelder is set to carry out asphalt maintenance work on behalf of the council.

This will take place in August, September and October in several phases. By carrying out the work in phases, we are minimising disruption to traffic as much as possible and endeavouring to ensure that neighbouring businesses remain as accessible as possible. On this page, you can find out which phases we will be working on.

Works at the Laan van Spitsbergen/Europaweg junction

From 8.00 pm on Monday 21 September until 5.00 am on Monday 28 September, we will be carrying out works at the junction of Laan van Spitsbergen and Europaweg. To ensure these works can be carried out safely and efficiently, the junction will be temporarily closed to traffic.

  • From Monday 21 September to Friday 25 September, the road will be closed between 8.00 pm and 5.00 am. The junction will remain accessible during the day.
  • From 8.00 pm on Friday 25 September until 5.00 am on Monday 28 September, the junction will be completely closed both during the day and at night.

Diversions and extra journey time

Whilst the works are in progress, the junction will be completely closed to through traffic. Traffic will be diverted via the signposted diversion routes. All road users should allow for extra journey time.

What are we going to do about the Europaweg?

During the works, we will remove the old tarmac and lay new tarmac. We will make alterations to a number of cycle and pedestrian crossings. In some places, work on the sewerage system will also be carried out at the same time.

We work in four stages:

  • Phase 1: Roadworks between Laan van Spitsbergen and Jachtlaan (complete closure)
  • Phase 2a: Changes between Laan van Spitsbergen and Jachtlaan (partially accessible, local roadworks)
  • Phase 2b: Closure of the Europaweg/Jachtlaan junction (complete closure at the weekend)
  • Phase 3: Closure of the Europaweg/Laan van Spitsbergen junction (complete closure at weekends)
  • Stage 4: To be confirmed

Accessibility

Schuman Park and the parallel road leading to Aldi and Beekman Transport, the industrial estate, the shops and the petrol station will remain accessible via Dijkgraafweg. An alternative route via Ugchelseweg is available for the police, the emergency control centre and Rabobank. However, all road users should allow for additional hold-ups and delays due to various diversions.

When are we working?

Daytime work takes place between 07.00 and 16.00. When work is carried out at the weekend, it begins on Friday at 20.00 and ends on Monday morning at 05.00. Work also takes place at night at weekends.

Diversions and extra journey time

The Europaweg will be closed whilst the works are in progress. Adjacent businesses will remain accessible via diversion routes. We cannot prevent you from being affected by the closure and having to take a detour. Please therefore allow for extra journey time and follow the directions on the diversion signs. We hope for your understanding.
