Improvements to 1e Wormenseweg

Residents’ Evening, 5 October 2026

On 5 October 2026, we presented the preliminary design for the redevelopment of 1e Wormenseweg. Under the design, the road will be 6 metres wide and on-road parking will remain permitted, as is currently the case. To improve road safety, raised crossing platforms and several road narrowings will be introduced, featuring greenery and, where possible, trees. In addition, a green strip will be created on the odd-numbered side of the road between Oude Beekbergerweg and Ruys de Beerenbrouckstraat. Pavements will remain on both sides of the road and will have a minimum width of 1.50 metres.

Sketch sheets 1, 2 and 3

This is a sketch of 1e Wormenseweg in Apeldoorn, showing what the street is intended to look like in future. It is a preliminary design and is spread over three sheets.

The drawing is a map viewed from above, based on an aerial photograph.

Here’s what’s going to change:

• The road is being resurfaced with stones instead of tarmac. These stones make less noise.
• The pavements are being resurfaced.
• There are raised sections at the side streets. These are raised sections of road. The pavement simply continues there.
• Special ramp sections will be installed in the pavement for people with disabilities.
• New trees and green spaces are to be planted. It has not yet been decided which species will be planted.
• A few lampposts are being moved.
• Yellow lines will be painted in areas where cars are not allowed to park

Cross-section A-A’

Tree species
Below are photos of seven tree species, showing their leaves and autumn colours:

• small-leaved lime (two species)
• Freeman maple (two varieties)
• Soft ash, also known as American ash (two species)
• Honey tree

Preliminary design cross-section

The residents’ evening was well attended and we can look back on a positive meeting. Many residents said they were satisfied with the revised design. We have incorporated as many comments and points for consideration as possible from previous consultation sessions. We will discuss the comments raised during the evening with the project team. Where possible, we will incorporate these into the further development of the design. As this is a preliminary design, no major changes are expected at this stage.
