The Municipality of Apeldoorn processes personal data only where there is a legal basis as set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In this case, we process the above-mentioned categories of personal data on the basis of a legitimate interest. The Municipality of Apeldoorn has a legitimate interest in protecting the safety of visitors, property and buildings. This interest is justified by the fact that incidents have occurred in the past which have made the use of CCTV surveillance necessary.
Who do we share your personal data with?
Where necessary for the purpose described above, the footage will be shared with third parties. This will be the case where incidents occur that require the data controller to take action. Examples include providing the footage to the police as evidence when a report is made, or where the police request the footage following an incident.
How long do we retain your personal data?
The local authority does not retain personal data for longer than is necessary.
- CCTV footage recorded at the Town Hall, the South Office Building and the North Municipal Depot is retained for a maximum of 14 days.
- CCTV footage recorded in the cycle sheds and car parks is retained for a maximum of 5 days.
Once this period has elapsed, the footage will be automatically deleted. In the event of an incident requiring action by the data controller, the local authority may retain the footage for a longer period.
