Facade Fund

The Façade Fund is designed to enhance the appearance of Apeldoorn’s city centre. Many buildings in Apeldoorn’s historic city centre are hidden gems. Business owners and property owners can receive a grant from this fund to refurbish the façade of their historic retail premises in the city centre. The basic principle is that the ground-floor shop front should once again be in keeping with the upper floors, which are often still historic.

The Façade Fund was set up to give business owners and property owners a helping hand in improving the appearance of the façades of their historic retail premises. Often, with just a few alterations to the façade, a property can regain some of its former glory.

You will be eligible for a grant if the ground-floor shop front is brought back into harmony with the upper floors, which are often still historic. This includes the layout of the shop front, the materials used, the removal of canopies and conservatories, the colour scheme and advertising displays.

The amount of the grant is based on the actual costs incurred and is intended for façade alterations to historic buildings in Apeldoorn city centre.

The contribution amounts to:

  • €1,500 per linear metre of façade;
  • Up to 50% of the investment costs;
  • A maximum of €10,000 per façade, with a corner property counting as two façades.
  • Additional funding may be available for the restoration of historic features and the removal of non-historic conservatories.

The document ‘Building blocks for the city centre (pdf, 7.6 MB)’ offers inspiration on the measures that can be taken to restore façades to their former glory. If you have any questions, please let us know via cultuur-erfgoed@apeldoorn.nl. We’d be happy to help!

You must submit your grant application before work begins, using the online application form. The local authority processes applications in the order in which they are received and completes the process within 8 weeks.

The application must, in any event, be accompanied by:

  • A set of specifications or a technical description;
  • Photographs and drawings showing both the existing and the new situation (scale 1:100);
  • A quotation itemised by material and labour costs and VAT, insofar as the VAT cannot be offset;
  • A copy of the required licences;
  • If the applicant is a business: a fully completed and legally signed de minimis declaration.

Our Culture and Heritage advisers will be happy to assist you with historical research, the preliminary design, structural engineering matters and applying for the grant. Please therefore contact us before you submit an application. You can do so via cultuur-erfgoed@apeldoorn.nl or by calling 14 055.

An environmental planning permission is often required to alter a façade. We therefore recommend that you discuss your plans with a member of staff at the Environment counter.

You must submit a completion notification as soon as possible, and no later than 8 weeks after the work has been completed, via the Online form for reporting completion. The work carried out will then be checked, after which the grant can be finalised.

The following documents must be included with the notification of completion:

  • Invoices for the work carried out; these invoices have been drawn up in accordance with the quotation and itemised to show material and labour costs, as well as VAT where the VAT cannot be offset;
  • Proof of payment;
  • Photos of the work carried out.
