Death certificate

If someone has died, you must report this to the local authority where the person died. The local authority will record the person’s death in the civil register and the Basic Register of Persons (BRP). It is compulsory to register a death. Usually, the funeral director takes care of this. As a next of kin, you can also do this yourself.

You can only file a claim with us if the person died in Apeldoorn.

You must not bury or cremate the deceased any earlier than 36 hours and no later than 6 working days after their death.

  • Would you like to bury or cremate the deceased at an earlier date? If so, you will need permission from the public prosecutor and the mayor, as well as a medical certificate.
  • Would you like to bury or cremate the deceased at a later date? If so, you will need permission from the mayor and a doctor’s certificate.

Usually, the funeral director arranges this postponement.
