Apeldoorn Council has sold the Wenum Watermill to Kampert Erfgoed Advies. The new owner will restore the complex and ensure it is put to future-proof and vibrant use. Councillor Marco Wenzkowski: “I look back on a careful process and appreciate the involvement of the village council and the users. This has helped us to find a buyer who is a good fit for the site. We are handing over the watermill with confidence and look forward to seeing the plans come to fruition.”

A unique location
In 2024, the Watermill Complex was put up for sale. Preservation and restoration were the top priorities for the complex’s future. Apeldoorn Council sought a suitable use for the site, so that residents and visitors could continue to enjoy this unique place, which still has so much to offer.
The complex was originally built for commercial purposes. Nowadays, it can take on a valuable new role by combining day-time leisure activities with community life. There are already some lovely and well-used footpaths leading from the mill along the stream, and these provide an excellent basis for further development. Furthermore, some of the buildings are already being used for community initiatives organised by various clubs and associations.
This unique site is situated in the Wenum-Wiesel stream valley and, thanks to its green landscaping, makes a valuable contribution to the landscape and natural environment, which could be further enhanced with a little extra care.

New owner to get started step by step
Over the coming years, the watermill complex will be gradually restored by Kampert Erfgoed Advies. In future, there will be facilities for weddings, parties and meetings. There will also be five B&B rooms, and visitors will be able to enjoy a bite to eat or a drink in the café after a walk along the Klompenpad.
