If you would like to be addressed differently to how you are currently addressed, you can submit a request to change the way your name is used. Your choice will then be recorded in the Personal Records Database (BRP). This ensures that other government bodies are also aware of it. However, they are not obliged to use this information. You can change your choice of name at any time. You should notify your local council of the change.
If you wish to change the way your name is used, you can choose from the following options:
- your own name
- the name of the (ex-)partner
- the name of your (ex-)partner followed by your own name
- your own name followed by the name of your (ex-)partner.
