Cees: the smile from the cycle shed

One of those familiar faces is Cees. With a smile, he welcomes visitors, helps people find their way and ensures that everything runs smoothly in the cycle park. Together with his colleagues, he helps to ensure that the cycle parks are a pleasant, safe and accessible place for everyone.

He does much more than just keep an eye on things. Whether it’s helping someone park a heavy electric bike, handing over a bike pump or simply having a friendly chat, for Cees it’s the most natural thing in the world. In this way, he proactively ensures that everything in the cycle shed runs smoothly and orderly.

Cees
“The best thing about this job? Without a doubt, it’s the contact with people. Seeing everyone head into town in good spirits, with a greeting and a smile – that gives me energy every single day.”

More than just a place to park your bike

The cycle parking facilities in Apeldoorn offer more than just a place to park your bike. Visitors can make use of various facilities, such as charging points for e-bikes, public toilets and a baby changing area. Special parking spaces are also available for fat bikes, cargo bikes and scooters. Take a look at our Bicycle parking page in which cycle parking facilities this is possible. Thanks to these facilities, the cycle parking facilities provide an important service for visitors to our city centre.

Working together to create a pleasant environment

More and more residents and visitors are finding their way to the city centre by bike. We are delighted with this development. As a result, our cycle parking facilities are also being used more and more. Every day, the car park attendants ensure that visitors can park their bikes safely and easily, and find them again later.

Especially on busy days, they go the extra mile to ensure everything runs smoothly. They help visitors, keep the cycle park tidy and sometimes ask people to park their bikes neatly in the bays, keep passageways clear or follow instructions. This is important to keep the cycle park safe, accessible and pleasant for everyone.

Cees says: “We really enjoy our work and are always on hand to help visitors. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that we’re increasingly faced with unfriendly reactions when we speak to visitors. I find that a shame. That’s why I’m making a friendly appeal to everyone who uses our cycle parking facilities: please treat me and my colleagues with respect. A kind word, a smile or following a instruction makes a big difference. Together, we can ensure that the cycle parking facilities remain a pleasant and welcoming place for everyone. Fortunately, we also receive a lot of appreciation from visitors, and that makes our work even more enjoyable.”

Appreciation for our administrators

Cees’s colleagues ensure that visitors can make use of clean, safe and well-organised facilities. Their work goes beyond simply keeping an eye on things. They help visitors, answer questions, keep the facilities in good order and contribute to a welcoming city centre.

Mayor Ton Heerts
“Our site managers are hosts and hostesses, caretakers, community support workers and site managers all rolled into one. They go out of their way every day for visitors to our city centre and deserve our respect and appreciation.”
