The NIKA method

In every development project, we take nature and the changing climate into account. The NIKA method sets out the minimum requirements for these measures. These NIKA values consist of two parts.

The first section consists of five core values;

• water storage
• greenery at ground level
• tree planting
• facilities for animals kept indoors
• wind comfort
• These fundamental principles are the same for everyone; there is no choice in the matter.

The second part consists of three categories of variable values;

• biodiversity
• green roofs and green façades
• climate adaptation

Application

NIKA applies when we are going to carry out construction work and a spatial plan needs to be drawn up for this purpose. A distinction is made between large and small-scale development projects. NIKA applies in full to large-scale development projects, whilst only the variable values apply to small-scale development projects.

NIKA applies in the following cases:

1. New construction projects;
2. Addition of a storey (building an extra storey onto an existing building);
3. Change of role

Grant scheme

There is a grant scheme for large-scale new-build developments that meet the NIKA criteria. In addition, 70% of the homes must be affordable. To this end, the NIKA Apeldoorn grant scheme drawn up. Projects that fully comply with the NIKA conditions are eligible for this grant scheme.
