Payment of support

If you have been assessed as needing care, there are two ways to receive support:

  1. Care in kind. You will receive assistance from one of the providers with whom the local authority has a contract. You choose who you would like to provide your care, and the local authority will handle the arrangements.
  2. Personal Budget (PGB). You are given a sum of money which you can use to find the support that suits you best.

You can read more about both forms of support below.

Care in kind means that:

  • The local authority enters into agreements with healthcare providers;
  • You will receive support from a provider with whom the local authority has a contract;
  • The local authority handles the payment and administration.

A personal budget (pgb) is a sum of money for care or support, such as:

  • Help with housework;
  • Support or day care;
  • An aid or home adaptation.

With a personal care budget (PCB), you can arrange your own support or assistance. You choose who helps you, when and how. The money is not paid into your own bank account. The Social Insurance Bank (SVB) Your care provider will pay for this on your behalf. Are you receiving a personal care budget (PCB) for an aid? In that case, we will pay the supplier directly, based on the quote you have requested.

You need certain skills to manage a personal care budget. For more information, see: 10 points for PGB skills on Rijksoverheid.nl. This checklist applies to all personal care budgets (PCBs): whether provided by the local authority, the care administration office or the health insurer. In addition, depending on your situation, the following apply a few rules.

What do you arrange yourself with a personal care budget (PCB)?

With a personal care budget (PCB), you organise the following yourself:

  • Your healthcare provider(s);
  • Arrangements regarding care;
  • A care agreement;
  • The administration.

The SVB assists with this and checks the payments
