Situated in the Veluwe, our municipality is the perfect place for outdoor art, both in the town and in the villages. You can therefore discover around 200 works of art in public spaces, including street poetry, murals and street art.
With the Markthal, bandstands in places such as the Oranjepark, Beekbergen and Loenen, and numerous open-air events, there is plenty to experience outdoors in Apeldoorn. There are also various audio tours and guided tours that take you past all sorts of outdoor art.

Apeldoorn is an open-air museum of visual art. Small and large works of art can be discovered throughout the municipality. Near the station, you’ll be welcomed to the city by light art installations such as ‘Reizend Zand’ and ‘De Kus’. The impressive ‘Kooi-met-geen-poema-erin’ towers over the up-and-coming Zuidbroek neighbourhood, and next to the cinema you’ll find the playful ‘Notenkrakerrr’. Set off and discover the many works of art scattered throughout the municipality! Every year, the art collection expands with new works, so there’s always something new to see.

The ACEC Foundation has audio tours designed to take you past 14 works of art on an 18-kilometre cycle ride, or to tell you all about the art in the Cultuurkwartier during a short walk. Apeldoorn is keen to provide a platform for (young) creators in unexpected locations. For example, artists have displayed their work on around 40 electrical boxes. You can also see street art by (graffiti) artists on various tunnels, viaducts and walls.
The Wilhelminaring is a national lifetime achievement award that has been presented every other year since 1998 to a leading Dutch sculptor. It is one of the most important art prizes in the Netherlands. The award aims to draw attention to Dutch sculpture. The prize consists of the specially designed Wilhelmina Ring, a poem, an exhibition at CODA Museum Apeldoorn and a commission for a work in Sprengenpark in Apeldoorn. As a result, Sprengenpark has been transformed into a sculpture garden featuring works by leading Dutch sculptors.
Poems in unusual outdoor locations can take you by surprise. Sometimes it’s just a beautifully crafted poem, such as on the Loolaan or on a manhole cover on the Ibislaan; other times, the words themselves form a work of art, such as in the Matenpark with the artwork *Moments for the Future*. The last Thursday in January is National Poetry Day, the perfect day to discover street poetry in Apeldoorn.
There are regular open-air performances in Apeldoorn. Music, theatre, singing – there’s plenty to enjoy, particularly during the summer months. As well as the summer programme at the bandstand in the Oranjepark, the OLTO music society performs regularly at the bandstand in Loenen. Berg & Bos City Park is the annual venue for the event, and the Stadsoase takes place at the GIGANT city stage in August. The Orpheus Theatre also regularly stages outdoor children’s performances in parks and neighbourhoods. The Markthal on Marktplein is increasingly being used for spectacular open-air performances.
