Monuments and listed areas

To protect sites, they are granted special status. Some are designated as listed buildings. A neighbourhood or village may be granted the status of a protected area.

Monuments

By designating a building as a listed building, major alterations or demolition can be prevented. Many of Apeldoorn’s listed buildings are villas. However, city parks, transformer stations, cemeteries, bridges and retail premises are also included on the list of listed buildings. Most of these buildings date from after 1850. Apeldoorn is therefore a typical 19th-century city of listed buildings.

Protected faces

Protected town and village landscapes are unique and highly valuable because of their history. This is often reflected in the layout of the area, the buildings, the roads and the green spaces. The municipality of Apeldoorn has three nationally protected townscapes: De Parken, Hoog Soeren and Radio Kootwijk, and eleven municipally protected town and village landscapes: the Indische buurt, the Metaalbuurt, Wiesel, the Kerschoten Reconstruction Area, the De Wiekelaar residential estate, the De Zeis-De Haarhamer residential estate, the residential estate with staggered houses (Gruttersdreef and Looiersdreef), the residential estate with staggered houses (Rietdekkersdreef), The White Houses of the Klokkengietershoeve, Residential area with drive-in houses (De Maten) and Residential area with drive-in houses (Zevenhuizen).
