Archaeological research has been carried out in Apeldoorn since the mid-19th century. This is because, by Dutch standards, the Apeldoorn area is exceptionally rich in archaeological treasures, both visible in the landscape and hidden underground.
Since 2007, the municipality of Apeldoorn has been conducting research into these burial mounds in collaboration with Leiden University, and this has since led to a wide range of new scientific insights that are also being followed internationally.
‘The Memory of Apeldoorn’ brings Apeldoorn’s history to life on the digital map. Hundreds of stories and artefacts, and thousands of images from Apeldoorn’s most important image collections, are available – both at home and on site.
