The Big Story of Apeldoorn

Apeldoorn has a rich history that gives the city, the villages and our natural surroundings their identity. To this day, this history can be felt and seen in stories, in our landscape, at various sites and in buildings, as well as in tangible objects. To ensure the past has a place in the present, work is underway on ‘The Great Story of Apeldoorn’.

The Big Story of Apeldoorn tells the story of the town and region in which we live, from the moment the first people arrived in the area right up to the present day. From the first hunters and farmers, and the rise of the iron industry, to streams, water mills and paper mills. And from the royal family’s establishment in Apeldoorn to the town’s development into a city. The website ‘The Great Story of Apeldoorn’ brings together these historical narratives and invites residents of Apeldoorn, school pupils, enthusiasts and (amateur) historians to contribute online. For example, The Big Story of Apeldoorn a living story for and by all of us.
