Feel your heritage

Heritage is not merely a collection of old buildings and traditions. It is the soul of our society, interwoven with our identity and history.

History tells us where we come from. This applies to us as individuals, but also to our city and villages. Heritage shows how Apeldoorn has become what it is today. It gives Apeldoorn its own identity and character. The council and residents work together to look after our heritage. The schemes set out below help to achieve this.

Archaeology Fund

When applying for an environmental permit, you may need to take archaeology into account. If the planned works pose a threat to the archaeological record, an archaeological investigation may be required.

Go to

Heritage Grant

The Municipality of Apeldoorn considers it important to maintain its listed buildings in good condition. That is why, as the owner of a municipally listed building or a nationally listed building, you can apply for a grant.

Sustainability Service for Listed Buildings

Want to make your listed building more sustainable? Making listed buildings and heritage properties more sustainable requires a different approach to that used for non-listed buildings. Read more about it here.

Go to

Grant for special trees

Apeldoorn has around 6,000 special trees. Around half of these are privately owned. If you own one or more special trees, you can apply for a grant to cover management and maintenance work, as well as arboricultural surveys.

Go to

Facade Fund

The Façade Fund is designed to enhance the appearance of Apeldoorn’s town centre. Business owners and property owners can receive a grant from this fund to refurbish the façade of their historic retail premises in the town centre.

Go to

Heritage Imagery Scheme

Apeldoorn has a rich history. Some stories from our past are widely known, whilst others are waiting to be told. Information displayed in public spaces, such as an information board or a form of artwork, can help to draw attention to these stories.

Go to

Cultural Landscape Scheme

The Cultural Landscape Scheme aims to enhance the experience of, and restore, the valuable historic cultural landscape in the municipality of Apeldoorn. Individuals and organisations that are working to maintain or enhance valuable cultural-historical landscape features, or that organise activities to enhance the experience of these features, may apply for a grant.
