The tarmac and concrete on the carriageway will be replaced with cobblestones, and the pavements will be resurfaced with new paving slabs. Where possible, we aim to incorporate green spaces into the streetscape. The public space will also be disconnected from the sewer system.
The water from your toilet, shower and kitchen drain ends up in the sewer system. This wastewater is treated at the treatment plant. Rainwater currently also flows into this sewer system. By installing an infiltration sewer, the rainwater is collected in a separate sewer system so that it is gradually absorbed into the groundwater. During heavy rainfall, this reduces the impact on the environment and means less wastewater needs to be treated at the treatment plant.
The works on Langeweg and Schwerinlaan provide a good opportunity to disconnect your home’s rainwater pipes from the mains drainage system. You can direct rainwater onto the street or collect it in your garden. By disconnecting your pipes, you’re helping to protect the environment. On 24 October, a residents’ evening was held to discuss the redevelopment of Langeweg (between Loolaan and Mecklenburglaan) and Schwerinlaan. Many residents attended. We are delighted with the good turnout and the many comments and questions we received.
During the residents’ evening, residents gave their feedback on the initial design. Below are some of the topics that were discussed.
Many questions have been raised about parking on Langeweg. In our proposal, we had suggested a few changes to the locations of the no-parking zones. However, several residents have indicated that the current situation works well and does not need to be changed. We are therefore maintaining the current parking policy on Langeweg. We will, however, replace the yellow lines with signs. In addition, we will mark the parking spaces on Langeweg with white stones in the paving, so that it is clear where parking is permitted. On Schwerinlaan, the parking ban at house numbers 13 and 15 will remain in place, and here too we will replace the yellow lines with signs.
The artwork at the junction of Langeweg and Loseweg, made from coloured paving stones, is to be removed. This is primarily for safety reasons: we want to prevent the artwork from distracting road users and thereby causing unsafe situations. We prefer the public space to have a calm and uncluttered appearance, so that road users’ attention remains fully focused on the traffic.
In our design proposal, we had included two speed bumps on Langeweg. As the parking policy remains unchanged, we have removed the speed bump at Langeweg 5 from the design. However, an additional speed bump will be installed at Langeweg 49. Speed measurements show that most road users are already driving relatively slowly: 85% of them drive at speeds between 30.8 and 34.9 km/h. By replacing the tarmac with cobblestones and adding one extra speed bump, we expect to reduce speeds even further.
In our design for Schwerinlaan, the tarmac will be replaced by paving stones. Otherwise, there will be few changes to the layout of the road. The remaining space between the carriageway and garden walls and driveways will be paved with the same pavers as those used on the carriageway. Where the carriageway meets green spaces, this will remain the same. So no additional green space will be added. We understand that the street is very narrow and that there is therefore little space left for parking, amongst other things. However, we do not see any possibilities for addressing this issue. In our view, proposals made regarding the parking regime or one-way traffic would not create any additional space for parking, for example.
The works will be carried out in phases. The contractor will start at the junction of Langeweg and Mecklenburglaan and will work in phases towards Loolaan. The requirements of the emergency services will be taken into account.
Whilst work is being carried out in your neighbourhood, you will temporarily be unable to access your home by car. You can park your car in another street or further down the same street. Your home will still be accessible on foot or by bike.
Around 10 days before work begins, you will receive a letter containing information about the schedule, phasing and access. This letter will also tell you where you can place your waste bin whilst we are carrying out work at your property.
Before we start the work, we will arrange for structural surveys to be carried out to document the structural condition of your property. This will enable us to prove, in the event of any damage occurring during the work, that it was not present before the work began.
Naturally, the contractor carrying out the work will proceed with caution, but as there are many older buildings on Langeweg and Schwerinlaan, we are taking this precautionary measure before the work begins.
We will let you know in advance who will be visiting you and when for this structural survey.
A structural survey is a record of all structural defects in an adjacent house or plot of land, set out in writing and supported by photographs. The camera will always zoom in on any defects; your personal belongings will therefore not appear in the photographs. The report can only be viewed by the owner/occupier of the property and the local authority.

In week 2, residents received a letter providing feedback. In it, we explained that the schedule had unfortunately been delayed.
Liander is set to replace gas pipes and electricity cables on Langeweg and Schwerinlaan. We will only be able to start the redevelopment once Liander’s work is complete. Unfortunately, Liander has recently indicated that they will not be able to commence their work on Langeweg and Schwerinlaan in the near future. As a result, we will not be able to start the redevelopment in 2025. We are very disappointed by this.
We are continuing our discussions with Liander regarding the schedule. As soon as we have a clearer idea of a specific timeframe for the work, we will inform residents of Langeweg and Schwerinlaan.
