Redevelopment of Vlijtseweg

Together with the working group

Over the past period, there has been close collaboration with the Vlijtseweg working group (De Parken Neighbourhood Association and a number of residents of Vlijtseweg and De Parken). During a series of discussions, we carefully considered which proposals and points raised by the working group could be incorporated into the design and the further development of the project.

The design for the redevelopment is now being further developed by the construction team. If everything goes according to plan, work can begin in early January 2027. The work will be carried out by the contractor NTP from Hattem.

A phased approach

We are opting for a phased approach: making the road safer now and working towards a low-traffic street at a later stage.

The change we are currently implementing is a first step towards improvement. At this stage:

• In the northern section, the carriageway and cycle path will be physically separated. In the southern section, there will be wider red cycle lanes, with motor traffic giving way to cyclists;
• A speed limit of 30 km/h will apply.

This change is in response to feedback from many local residents who indicated that these measures are both desirable and necessary to improve road safety.

Why isn’t it a low-traffic zone yet?

The Vlijtseweg forms part of a wider transport system. Before we can take any further measures, various access roads leading into the city centre must first be modified. Only then will we be able to properly assess which next steps on the Vlijtseweg are feasible and justifiable.

We will therefore first assess the impact on other junctions in Apeldoorn. We will carry out this assessment carefully. We want to ensure that a diversion does not cause new problems elsewhere. This study will be carried out in more detail in 2026.

Information evening on the final design
