Beekbergen and Lieren are situated just outside Apeldoorn, on the border between the Veluwe and the IJssel Valley. It is a beautiful area with plenty of green space. A neighbourhood survey shows that it is a pleasant place to live. People generally find life here to be good. Neighbourly relations are also excellent. Residents feel a sense of belonging to their village. They roll up their sleeves to get involved, whether in local clubs or in other ways.
The beautiful surroundings attract many people from outside the area. Tourists come for the countryside and the holiday parks. There are also many care homes set amongst the greenery. This provides employment, but also causes a fair bit of noise. Some holiday parks are outdated and are home to many migrant workers. There is also a lot of activity around the care homes. Villagers are sometimes bothered by this.
Beekbergen and Lieren each have their own unique atmosphere and village character. They would like to keep it that way, but Apeldoorn is encroaching ever closer. That is why a green belt is on the agenda: a permanent buffer between the city and the villages.
There is also demand for housing in Beekbergen/Lieren. Not on a large scale, but there are enough affordable homes, particularly for first-time buyers.
The roads can get busy due to the tourists in and around the village. There is also a problem with rat-running. This requires attention. It might help if more and different parking spaces were provided. And if traffic bottlenecks were tackled.
In short, Beekbergen/Lieren is a lovely village community where there’s always something going on. But we do need to get to work to ensure life here remains good. That’s why we’re going to tackle the action points on the agenda together.
Between 2024 and 2034, we will be focusing particularly on five areas. Firstly, the social environment. How can we ensure that Beekbergen/Lieren remains a pleasant and safe community? Secondly, spatial planning: sufficient housing and attractive outdoor spaces. And thirdly, preserving the village’s unique character and atmosphere. We’ll also be looking at how to improve road safety, with less rat-running and fewer parking problems. And we’ll be tackling sustainability: how can the villages move away from gas?

Less nuisance on the streets |
We are working with a range of organisations to tackle nuisance behaviour in the villages. This includes, for example, drinking alcohol in the street and leaving litter in the village. Each organisation decides for itself what it can do in this regard. But we also coordinate our efforts. To reduce public nuisance, a ban on drinking alcohol in the street has been in place since early 2023. We are putting up signs to make people aware of this. The police and special constables are responsible for enforcing the ban. |

Enough suitable homes |
We would like to find out what people’s housing needs are and where new homes could be built. There is certainly a demand for affordable housing, particularly for young people. A flexible approach to the reception of asylum seekers |

Safer roads |

Lovely holiday parks |
Some holiday parks in the area are untidy and there are nuisance issues. The parks are intended for tourists. However, they are sometimes also used by migrant workers. We are in discussion with the owners about this. Together, we are looking at how these can once again become pleasant holiday destinations. The ‘Vitale Vakantieparken’ programme is doing a great deal to address this. The village council is keen to work with organisations and residents to explore how we can make Beekbergen a more tourist-friendly village once again. The local council is also investing time in improving tourism. For example, by creating new routes and ‘starting points’ that are easy for tourists to reach, so that they can go for a walk, a cycle ride or do something else from those points. |

No nuisance from rat-running |
The Kayersdijk is being extended. We are investigating whether this will lead to more rat-running through Lieren and Oosterhuizen. And if so, what we can do about it. |
