The twin village of Wenum Wiesel is situated in the countryside to the north of Apeldoorn. It has a population of over 2,900, spread across the two centres, De Haere, Hommelbrink and the surrounding countryside. The watermill is a defining feature of the village’s landscape. There is an active village council. The number of amenities is limited.
Relations with neighbours are generally good, and many residents help one another. The village organises all sorts of activities, but not everyone is aware of them. The relationship with the local council could be improved. In drawing up this agenda, the village council and the local council discussed a number of issues that had arisen previously. We have agreed to maintain good communication in future.
People are generally satisfied with the village’s accessibility and its facilities. Good public transport is, however, important. There are concerns about unsafe junctions and areas where people drive too fast. Road safety is also an issue along the widened/re-designed cycle path running alongside the old railway line.
Most people feel safe during the day, though this feeling is somewhat less pronounced in the evening. At the same time, many feel that darkness is part and parcel of living in the countryside. A number of residents are bothered by the noise from Teuge Airport.
The village aims to strike a good balance between housing, nature and agriculture. There is a need for affordable housing for young and old alike. De Haere would like to see more pitches. There is also a demand for reliable information on sustainability.
Residents enjoy the outdoor spaces and the open countryside. People are generally satisfied with the maintenance of green spaces, but street maintenance could be improved. The watermill is important, not least as a social hub. There is a demand for more play areas for children and activities for young people.
We will be tackling these key areas together. The agenda sets out the actions to be taken. The following points will receive particular attention in the coming years. First and foremost, we will be investing time in maintaining social cohesion. We will also be looking at what is needed in terms of traffic and transport. Together, we’ll ensure our village remains safe. We’ll be working on housing and sustainability. And we’ll keep our public spaces in good order.

As a local authority, we want to make sound decisions about the future development of the town, village and surrounding area. To this end, we have been using a ‘weighting model’ since 2024.
