I know how to eat healthily

‘I Know Healthy!’ is a free teaching programme for Year 6 (also suitable for mixed-age groups), in which pupils learn in an interactive way what healthy eating is and how it affects your body. Together with their healthy buddy Broccoli Brody, they discover in a playful way just how much fun healthy eating and drinking can be.

Among other things, the pupils will work with the ‘Wheel of Five’, discover how the digestive system works, learn to read food labels and go shopping in a fictional supermarket. The programme also covers citizenship, reading comprehension and numeracy. The programme concludes with a visit to Aventus, where pupils work alongside university students to prepare their own healthy lunch and eat it together.

The lessons

The programme consists of four interactive lessons, each lasting an average of one hour, which you, as the teacher, will deliver yourself. You will receive detailed instructions and accompanying PowerPoint presentations to ensure that the lessons are straightforward and easy to deliver.

Find out what happens in your body when you eat, and learn how your digestive system works.

Lesson 2: What do you know about healthy eating?
Find out more about the Wheel of Five and discover what your body needs to stay healthy.

Lesson 3: The supermarket
Learn to make smart choices and practise doing the shopping and paying for it.

Lesson 4: Let’s investigate!

Finally, there is a closing lesson at Aventus, delivered by students:
