A major milestone in the construction of the Security Centre

Today, WAM & Van Duren, Hollander Techniek and Linthorst Techniek signed the contract for the construction of the new Safety Centre on Matenpoort. The building will house the central fire station, the headquarters of the North and East Gelderland Safety Region (VNOG) and the offices of the Veluwe Environmental Agency (ODVeluwe). The VNOG and the ODVeluwe signed the tenancy agreements today.

Councillor Bouwien ten Bokum on this milestone: “This signing marks the start of the Safety Centre’s construction. First and foremost, this will ensure that our fire service is fit for the future. By bringing the fire service and other safety partners together under one roof, we are pooling knowledge and expertise in this striking and sustainable building. I am proud that our impressive Safety Centre marks the first new-build project in Apeldoorn as a City of Safety.”.

Fire station

At present, the fire service has three buildings spread across Apeldoorn: Beatrijsgaarde, Saba and Vosselmanstraat. Under the new arrangements, there will be a single central fire station. The VNOG head office and the VNOG crisis centre will also be located in the new building. Gerard Bouwmeester, managing director and regional commander of VNOG: “”From here, we work together with local residents, local authorities and other emergency services, and we do everything in our power to make our region safe and resilient.”

Veluwe Environmental Agency

Director Menno van Dam is looking forward to the future office location of the Veluwe Environmental Agency: “Our collaboration with VNOG is already going well and will only grow stronger now that we are working in close proximity to one another. We will be able to better align our data systems and working methods and respond more quickly to emergencies that affect safety and the local environment.”
