A pleasant shopping street extending from the A-1 area, featuring local and regional restaurants, cafés and shops, which complement the national chains in the A-1 area well. A sort of ‘Hoofdstraat-light’. Here, alongside the chains, you’ll find mainly ‘local heroes’ in the form of unique shops, as well as lovely spots to grab a bite to eat or a drink whilst you’re out shopping.

Here you’ll find a mixed-use street with a variety of functions. It is home to start-up businesses across a range of sectors: hospitality, retail, services and leisure. What makes this area special is that it also houses various social and cultural venues. As such, it forms an attractive link between the A-zone of Hoofdstraat and Caterplein. Hoofdstraat-Noord, with its beautifully restored buildings and seamlessly integrated zones, literally and figuratively forms the link between the Hoofdstraat shopping area and the Caterplein hospitality and cultural area.

A mix of culture, daytime dining and evening/night-time entertainment. Not only can you go out here until the early hours, but you can also sample what Apeldoorn has to offer culturally. The area features major attractions such as the Coda Museum, a library, Acec, the Vue cinema, and the Orpheus Theatre is also within walking distance. The bars and restaurants with their terraces literally and figuratively link the various cultural activities, whether during the day, in the afternoon or in the evening. There is also a multi-storey car park on the edge of this area, making the area and its facilities easily accessible.

This city park in the heart of Apeldoorn is a pleasant place to be. As well as being a lovely place to live, the presence of a multi-storey car park also makes it a place where many shoppers can begin and end their visit to Apeldoorn city centre. The main shopping street is just a stone’s throw away, and the route is lined with an attractive public space and appealing shops and restaurants at street level. In terms of both its appearance and spatial functionality, the area is becoming much more of a place to linger (an urban oasis) than a ‘hard’ shopping district.

Residents of Apeldoorn city centre and the immediately adjacent area (north side of the city centre) can do their shopping here thanks to the mix of a supermarket, specialist food shops and chemists. The weekly market is also just a stone’s throw away.

The western section of the street has a greater variety of shops, more in keeping with the character of the Hoofdstraat.

Towards Kerklaan, the character of the area changes; this becomes an extension of Hoofdstraat, with a range of shops catering to leisure activities.

It is a unique (and green) part of the city centre where visitors are surprised by a number of distinctive little streets, complemented by the Leienplein. It is also a distinctive part of the city centre, thanks to the old Town Hall, the Markthal and the contemporary town hall. There’s often something going on at the Markthal. The long, narrow Nieuwstraat will soon consist of three distinct sections. The northern section is home to several cultural attractions, with evening and nightlife venues opposite, extending from Caterplein. The central section will complement the small-scale, cosy hospitality area comprising the four streets and Leienplein, with some residential properties. The southern section will become a lively residential area, with a few hospitality venues situated next to the new Amaliapark.
