Brand objective

On the west-hand side of Markendoel, there are many beautiful old trees in the gravel verge. We will therefore narrow the road here to preserve this tree-lined verge. In the section east of Methusalemlaan, there are no trees in the verge and, due to the cables and pipes in the area, there is no space to plant any. Here, we will narrow the road on both sides so that the gravel verge is roughly the same width on both sides of the road.

As there is no space for trees on this section of the road (i.e. to the east of the junction with Methusalemlaan), we would like to give residents living on this section of the street the opportunity to plant a tree in their front garden themselves. We, as the local council, are offering this. Are you interested? If so, please let us know.

As speed-reducing measures, we are creating a raised junction area and two speed bumps. All designed to encourage a speed of 30 km/h. The junction with Methusalemlaan will feature a small green area in the centre, so as to avoid an excessive amount of paving. At the former CODA site, the carriageway will, as at present, merge into a cycle and footpath. The paved surface of fired clinkers will continue here as before, but will naturally be considerably narrower. We will extend the green verges here as far as possible.
