Missing, lost or stolen driving licence

There are two ways to report your driving licence as lost.

Online

Report the loss or theft of your driving licence via the RDW website.

Desk

When applying for a new driving licence, you can report it as lost. To do this, book an appointment online.

Good to know:

• If you find your driving licence after reporting it lost, it will no longer be valid.
• Once you have found it, you must hand in your expired driving licence to us.

Validity of a new driving licence

Your new driving licence will have a new document number and a new expiry date. This does not apply if you hold a C, C1, D, D1 and/or E licence (lorry or bus), or a licence issued on medical grounds. In that case, your new driving licence will have the same expiry date as the one you have lost. However, if you undergo a new medical examination before applying for a new driving licence, you will be issued with a driving licence with a new expiry date.

Theft or robbery

In the event of theft, pickpocketing, robbery or other crimes, it is advisable to report the incident to the police.
