Childcare in the municipality of Apeldoorn

Apeldoorn has been tasked with providing 1,159 accommodation places for Ukrainian displaced persons by 1 July 2025. We are doing this at temporary locations. We do not use buildings or sites intended for ‘ordinary’ housing to accommodate refugees.

The process of receiving refugees from Ukraine differs from that of receiving asylum seekers and those granted refugee status. We explain exactly how this works and what role the municipality of Apeldoorn plays in this on the Page: Refugees in Apeldoorn.

These are the locations for the Municipal Reception Centres for Ukrainians (GOO) in Apeldoorn:

Unaccompanied minors

Among the displaced persons from Ukraine are also children (aged 0–18) who have come to the Netherlands without a parent or parents. It is vital to identify these cases so that appropriate reception, support and registration can be arranged. If the local authority identifies minors travelling without their parent(s), for example at a local authority reception centre or during registration, we will report this to Nidos. This organisation provides youth protection services for refugees. As a host family, if you have any questions about this or wish to report an unaccompanied minor, please contact oekraine@apeldoorn.nl.

Helping refugees from Ukraine: what can I do?

Many Dutch people want to do their bit to help refugees. For example, by donating items. There are also various initiatives to take people into their homes (temporarily) or provide them with accommodation. On the central government website You can read about what you can do. You will also find up-to-date information on the implications of taking in refugees if you are receiving a state pension (AOW) or social security benefits.
