Assistant Technical Manager

You’ll be the ‘jack-of-all-trades’ when it comes to managing our assets. Whether it’s car parks, traffic control systems (TCSs), speed displays, cameras, bollards, street lighting or water taps, your colleagues may send you out on a job, an inspection, a site survey or something else. We’re currently looking for an assistant technical manager to join the Traffic Systems, Underground Infrastructure and Parking (VOIP) unit.

This vacancy from Assistant Technical Manager (28–32 hours) is definitely for you if you:

  • wants a combination of technical maintenance and the occasional customer contact
  • can coordinate tasks, but also knows how to get stuck in
  • can step in wherever and whenever needed
  • wants to ensure that visitors to Apeldoorn have a warm and enjoyable experience.

Here’s what you’ll be doing
The components (assets) mentioned above are fitted with the necessary technical installations. Is there a technical problem? You’ll ensure that simple faults are resolved, or you’ll provide feedback to a site supervisor if a fault cannot be resolved immediately. In this role, you’ll be working with both people and technology – the ideal combination for you. This means that you:

  • Together with around eight site managers working at the various locations, you’ll help keep the five car parks clean, in good condition and safe. You have a good sense of where the priorities lie and provide feedback when necessary.
  • In consultation with one of the first-line fault-resolution technicians, resolves faults at one of the other assets.
  • You will be the point of contact for property managers, customers, suppliers and contractors.
  • Ensures that everything is properly documented.

This is you
You feel responsible for ‘your’ assets. We’re looking for a colleague who can start work quickly and whom we can send out on ‘an errand’. Experience in a similar role is therefore desirable. You are computer literate and can work with Excel, Word, Outlook and Signalen. As you will need to travel to various locations in Apeldoorn, a Category B driving licence is essential.

You’ll step in to help colleagues when they ask you to. But you’ll also make sure your own work is finished on time. Sometimes you’ll work independently, but you’ll often be part of a team. Either way, your technical skills are what matter most. If you’ve got a bit less experience but are keen on technology and want to learn a lot, you’re also welcome to join us.

You’ll also score points with:

  • ‘a ’hands-on’ approach; you can tackle things quickly (on an ad hoc basis)
  • customer-focused
  • being able to organise your own work
  • actively contribute ideas and not limit yourself to your own area
  • a completed MBO qualification (level 2/3)

About the team
The VOIP unit comprises four departments. In total, there are around 18 colleagues. The unit is responsible for the management and maintenance of various (technical) components in public spaces, as well as for supervising installation and repair work.

Examples of assets in public spaces include street lighting, traffic lights, city barriers, car parks, bridges and other engineering structures, as well as road signage and markings. The unit also manages the cycle parking facilities in the city centre. Around 25 colleagues work here.

You will be part of the Traffic Systems and Parking department, but you will also occasionally work for others within the unit. This department is characterised by a high degree of independence and a collegial atmosphere. You will have six direct colleagues within this section: four Technical Managers A (one of whom is the section head) and two site supervisors. Due to the current workload, we expect you to be willing to lend a hand to colleagues from time to time.

Here’s what we offer you

  • A role for 28–32 hours per week;
  • This is a new role within the unit, which will be provisionally classified in pay scale 4 (minimum €2,472 and maximum €3,416) as a Technical Implementation Officer IV. The final classification will take place after one year, partly on the basis of the tasks and duties carried out.
  • An Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 17,45% on top of your salary. You can use this, for example, for:
    • Extra income by having it paid out.
    • Buying extra holiday hours.
  • An attractive pension scheme.
  • A good work-life balance, with the option to save up leave and flexible working hours;
  • A focus on the opportunities we offer as an employer in the areas of learning and development, both in terms of professional skills and career progression;
  • We have a multi-year professional development programme designed to support your personal development, so that we can provide the best possible service to our residents. The programme offers you the freedom to shape it yourself and make your own choices.
  • 201.6 holiday hours based on a 36-hour week;
  • An attractive pension scheme;
  • Use of a company car to carry out your work whenever necessary;
  • Do you travel to work by public transport? If so, you’ll be fully reimbursed. Do you travel by car, bike or on foot? If so, you’ll receive an allowance for this.
