Composers’ Neighbourhood

Several streets in the Componistenbuurt no longer meet modern standards. The quality of the tarmac is poor and it needs replacing. At the same time, the council wishes to improve road safety and, where possible, add green spaces to the streetscape. The public space will also be decoupled.

Chopin Avenue – Strauss Avenue

The tarmac surfacing on the carriageway is being replaced with paving stones. Raised platforms (intersection platforms) will be installed at the junctions of Chopinlaan with Lisztlaan, Schubertlaan, Brucknerlaan, Valeriuslaan and Scarlattilaan. An infiltration drainage system will also be installed in all streets so that rainwater from the road can seep into the ground.

Bernard Zweerslaan, Johan Wagenaarlaan, Valeriuslaan and Diepenbrocklaan

Johan Wagenaarlaan, Valeriuslaan and Diepenbrocklaan are being redesigned to ensure they have a uniform layout. The parking bays will be arranged in a staggered pattern so that they act as speed bumps. Green areas with trees will be created alongside and between the parking spaces. An infiltration drainage system will also be installed in all streets to allow rainwater to seep from the road into the ground.

Joseph Haydn Avenue

The tarmac surfacing on the carriageway is being replaced with paving stones. Where possible, green spaces are being expanded. An infiltration drain is being installed on Joseph Haydnlaan so that rainwater from the road can seep into the ground.

Mozart Avenue

The tarmac surfacing on the carriageway will be replaced by paving stones. Where possible, the green areas will be enlarged. A raised area (intersection platform) will be constructed at the junction with Bachlaan. An infiltration drain will be installed in Mozartlaan to allow rainwater from the road to seep into the ground.

Debussy Avenue, Bizet Avenue and Donizetti Avenue

A raised area (intersection platform) will be constructed at the junction of Debussylaan and Bizetlaan. Where possible, a green strip will be created along Debussylaan. On Donizettilaan, green strips will be created on the side opposite the houses. An infiltration drain will also be installed in all streets so that rainwater from the road can seep into the ground.

Beethoven Avenue

The tarmac surfacing on the carriageway will be replaced by paving stones. Raised platforms will be installed at the junctions with Brahmslaan and Sweelincklaan. Where possible, trees will be planted in the verge in front of numbers 40 to 86 (even-numbered side). An infiltration drain will be installed in Beethovenlaan to allow rainwater from the road to seep into the ground.

Sebastiaan Square

Sebastiaanplein is being redesigned to improve road safety. The road running alongside Sebastiaanplein 14 and 18 will be removed and converted into a green space. Sebastiaanplein, in front of numbers 9 to 13 (odd-numbered side), will have parking bays on both sides. Trees will be planted in the green space. An infiltration drain will also be installed on Sebastiaanplein to allow rainwater from the road to seep into the ground.

What is disconnection?

The water from your toilet, shower and kitchen drain ends up in the sewer system. This wastewater is treated at the treatment plant. Rainwater currently also flows into this sewer system. By installing an infiltration sewer, the rainwater is collected in a separate sewer system so that it is gradually absorbed into the groundwater. During heavy rainfall, this reduces the impact on the system and means less wastewater needs to be treated at the treatment plant.
