Treasury of the South

In ‘De Schatkamer van Zuid’, Apeldoorn Council and the housing associations Ons Huis and De Woonmensen are working together on the development of De Schatkamer.

The development plan builds on the industrial heritage of days gone by. The Canal, with its factories, cottages, routes and landmarks, forms the basis for a plan in which old and new alternate. Characteristic buildings housing a variety of dwellings will soon define the character of this unique area. Meanwhile, the first and second phases have been completed, including the development of the public spaces. What remains is phase three: the redevelopment of the Dorpsdeel area, between Aalscholverweg and Lepelaarweg, and the Koldewijn site.

Neighbourhood

In this section, most of the plots available for sale have been sold by the housing association to private owners. Construction and renovation work is currently taking place here. Once this is largely complete, the public spaces will be handed over in a state ready for habitation. This will ensure that the sub-area is ready for all future occupation and use. This process includes, amongst other things, the construction and surfacing of new roads and footpaths, the provision of parking spaces, the planting of trees, street lighting and any remaining utility connections.

Completion and handover are expected to take place in 2026.

Koldewijn

De Woonmensen plans to build 29 social housing units at the Koldewijn site. A drop-in session for local residents was organised on 17 November to discuss this, and the plan was presented.

To enable the development to go ahead in its entirety, the Environmental Plan will need to be amended in part. The local authority intends to make the Environmental Plan available for public inspection by the end of 2025, so that a decision can then be taken on the Environmental Plan. After that, an application for an Environmental Permit can be submitted.

Local residents will be informed of the public inspection by letter.
