Vogelbuurt refurbishment

Apeldoorn Council plans to refurbish a number of streets in the Vogelkwartier. These are Vogelplein, Leeuwerikweg, Korhoenweg, Fazantweg, Kanarieweg, Kwartelweg, Gruttoweg and Putterweg. On this project page, you can read exactly what we’re going to do.

Several streets around Vogelplein no longer meet modern standards. The quality of the paving is poor and in need of replacement. At the same time, the council wishes to improve the layout of the parking areas and, where possible, add green spaces to the streetscape. Vogelplein itself is to be transformed back into a meeting place with play facilities. The public space will also be deconcentrated.

Bird Square

The entire square is being redesigned. The existing trees will be retained as far as possible. The playground equipment will be relocated and fitted with a different surface. The square will also feature spaces for people to meet and socialise. In addition, there will be more space for greenery to create shaded areas. When deciding on the planting, care will be taken to ensure it is open enough to allow a clear view to and from the square.

Residential streets

In the residential streets, the existing surfacing will be replaced with paving stones. The parking bays will be clearly marked. Where possible, green areas will be extended – for example, on Fazantweg between Vogelplein and Korhoenweg – or new ones created to demarcate the parking bays. An infiltration drain will also be installed in all streets to allow rainwater from the road to seep into the ground.

What is disconnection?

The water from your toilet, shower and kitchen drain ends up in the sewer system. This wastewater is treated at the treatment plant. Rainwater currently also flows into this sewer system. By installing an infiltration sewer, the rainwater is collected in a separate sewer system so that it is gradually absorbed into the groundwater. During heavy rainfall, this reduces the impact on the environment and means less wastewater needs to be treated at the treatment plant.
