The 1e Wormenseweg no longer meets modern standards. The road is in poor condition and the tarmac is due for replacement. At the same time, the council wishes to improve road safety on this stretch of road. By carrying out various improvements, the 1e Wormenseweg should once again be ready for the future.
Before drawing up a preliminary design, we asked local residents about the positive and negative aspects of the current situation. Residents considered the central location to be the most important advantage of 1e Wormenseweg. They also appreciated the variety of homes, the width of the street, the village-like character and the 30 km/h speed limit.
The main improvements relate to road safety: traffic volume and speed. Other areas for improvement include parking, the condition of the road and the lack of green spaces. The local council also wishes to replace the tarmac, improve the traffic situation, replace the sewerage system and add green spaces.
Feedback from local residents is valuable. We will take this into account when drawing up the preliminary design for the street. Naturally, we cannot incorporate everything: public spaces are also subject to certain laws, rules and guidelines.
The new design is being drawn up for the section of 1e Wormenseweg between Laan van Mensenrechten and the junction with Ruys de Beerenbrouckstraat.

By 2025, the local authority will have a preliminary design (PDF, 5.7 MB) for the 1st Wormenseweg. We presented this to local residents ahead of the summer of 2025. Due to the many responses to the design, we have decided to produce a new preliminary design. We expect to present this during a residents’ evening in the second or third quarter of 2026.
