Ugchelen Buiten is part of the Westenenk neighbourhood. The neighbourhood was built between 2018 and 2023 on the former TNO site. It comprises around three hundred homes, ranging from terraced houses to detached villas. Along the edge of the neighbourhood, you’ll find a number of businesses, such as the Land Registry and Lucrato. There’s plenty of green space around the neighbourhood, and you can reach the countryside in no time.
Most residents are very happy with where they live and get on well with their neighbours. Around 60 per cent feel that there are enough community activities. Half of them actually take part in neighbourhood activities. 20 per cent would like to see more activities, particularly for children and older people.
The exit from the neighbourhood onto Laan van Westenenk is a cause for concern. Motorists often have to wait a long time before they can merge. Pedestrians and cyclists regularly feel unsafe here.
Furthermore, people drive too fast in some parts of the neighbourhood.
Almost everyone considers the neighbourhood to be very safe. People keep a close eye on things, and it’s easy to get in touch via the WhatsApp groups. If anything comes up, residents usually sort it out amongst themselves.
Most residents are actively committed to sustainability. Many homes have been built to very high sustainability standards. Almost all of them are connected to the district heating network, but many residents are dissatisfied with this.
Generally speaking, residents are happy with the outdoor spaces. Two-thirds consider the maintenance of green spaces to be adequate. There are ideas for expanding the popular play areas.
We’ll be working on these and other points together. The agenda sets out the actions to be taken.
The following areas will receive particular attention in the coming years. First and foremost, we will be investing time in maintaining social cohesion. We will also be looking at what is needed in terms of traffic, transport and local amenities. We are focusing on housing and sustainability. And we will be making our public spaces even more attractive.
