De Sprenkelaar Area Development

Apeldoorn City Council is working with residents and organisations to develop part of the De Sprenkelaar neighbourhood. There will be a lot happening in the neighbourhood over the coming years. This presents opportunities to improve the area. We want to enhance the living environment. That is why we are working closely with the housing association De Goede Woning and the welfare organisation Stimenz. The design of the neighbourhood plays an important role. It influences how people interact with one another and how at home they feel in the neighbourhood.

What’s going to happen?

In *De Sprenkelaar*, several storylines unfold simultaneously:

  • The local council wants to revitalise public spaces
  • The housing association is looking into renovating the flats
  • We are looking into what might be possible in the future on the site of the current swimming pool
  • A new community centre (1005) is being built

We are looking at these developments in the broader context. This will enable us to improve the neighbourhood as a whole.
It is not yet clear exactly what will change. We will start by holding discussions with residents and the organisations involved.

Where is this project?

The project concerns a section of De Sprenkelaar in the north-east of Apeldoorn.

The area is situated between:

  • Aristoteles Avenue
  • Laan van Zevenhuizen
  • Anklaarseweg
  • Deventerstraat

This area is home to, amongst other things:

  • Around 1,600 homes. Around half of these are rental properties managed by a housing association, including four blocks of flats with over 400 flats.
  • The Atrium
  • the current swimming pool
  • a gym
  • new-build homes
  • local amenities (1005)
  • garage units

Planning

  • From summer 2026: start of discussions with residents (door-to-door)
  • 2026–2027: gathering ideas and suggestions
  • From 2027: drawing up plans

We will be returning to the neighbourhood on several occasions, in various ways, to discuss and refine the plans.

What’s already happening in the neighbourhood?

Building 1005

The old building has been demolished. A new building is currently under construction. The building is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. It will be handed over, fully fitted out, in early 2027. Organisations such as Don Bosco and Stimenz will be based in the building, amongst others.

This project is not part of the area development scheme. If you have any questions, please contact the developer.

Current swimming pool

A new swimming pool is being built on Vlijtseweg. The current swimming pool will remain open until the new one is ready, which is expected to be in the summer of 2027. After that, this site will become available. We are looking into what might be possible at this site in the future.

What does this mean for you as a resident?

At the moment, apart from what is mentioned above, nothing else is changing in the street. We will first be consulting with residents. Your ideas and experiences are important to the plans.

You will be kept informed at various stages and will have the opportunity to contribute your ideas.
