Response Memorandum on 1st Wormenseweg

Response document in response to comments on the draft design made at the residents’ evening on 15 July 2025.

Why were concrete paving stones chosen?

We have deliberately opted for noise-reducing concrete paving stones. These stones help to reduce traffic noise and, at the same time, act as a speed-reducing measure.

Are enough speed bumps being installed to reduce speed?

Yes, speed bumps have been marked out at regular intervals. In addition, the junctions have also been raised; we call these junction plateaus. These plateaus also reduce speed and indicate where the speed bumps are to be placed. As there is also heavy goods traffic, a good balance has been sought between comfort and road safety.

Why not use road narrowings instead of speed bumps?

Due to the large number of cyclists, we have decided not to include any narrowings in the design. This ensures it remains safe for cyclists.

The pavement is sometimes very narrow

That’s right; the design calls for a single, full-width pavement on one side of the street, so that the street is wide enough and safe throughout.

Has a decision already been made about which types of trees are to be planted?

In the final design, we set out which species of trees will be planted. In doing so, we take into account light levels, sightlines and sufficient space for the trees to grow. The trees will be positioned so that they blend in with the streetscape.

Have the locations of the trees been finalised yet?

No, the locations currently marked on the map are potential locations. The final location will depend on the position of cables and pipes. We will take this into account in the final design.

Will there be greenery in the narrow sections?

No narrowings have been included in the design.

The verge near the Dekamarkt entrance is impractical

We are still looking at the layout near the entrance to the Dekamarkt.

The green strip in front of number 94 makes the pavement narrow

It was decided to provide a single, full-width pavement, which is situated opposite number 94.

A green area has been marked on the map at number 167 – will the driveway still be there?

Yes, the entrance will remain, and we will incorporate this into the final design.

The driveways for house numbers 117, 140 and 144 are missing from the design

The access points have been marked on the final design.

Is it possible to create a driveway whilst the redevelopment is underway?

No, you need a permit for a new driveway. You can apply for this via www.apeldoorn.nl/vergunningen.

Does the design actually include enough parking spaces?

We have decided to have an external agency carry out an additional parking survey to ascertain the number of parking spaces.

Will it be possible to park in my front garden later on?

Parking in the front garden where there is no driveway is not permitted.

Will there be clearly marked parking spaces so that driveways aren’t blocked?

Yes, by using different materials, we make it clear where parking is and isn’t permitted.

Is it possible to extend the licence hours beyond office hours?

This falls outside the scope of our project plan for 1e Wormenseweg. Please contact us on 14 055 regarding this matter. Select option 6.

Is parking in the bay at number 236 permitted, even though it is partly on the junction platform?

Yes, this is permitted. The parking bay complies with the requirements of the regulations on traffic rules and road signs.

Relocate the drainage system to make it easier to drive up the driveway

We will incorporate the vortex distribution into the final design.

The sewerage, electricity and gas systems are outdated – will this be taken into account in the refurbishment?

The sewerage system is being replaced. We are installing a separate sewer for rainwater. Electricity and gas are the responsibility of the utility companies and are not part of this project

Flooding during heavy rainfall

We are improving the drainage system. This includes the installation of a stormwater drainage system.

Is it possible to reduce the amount of goods traffic on 1e Wormenseweg?

There is no way to prevent lorries from travelling along 1e Wormenseweg.

How are passing lorries dealt with?

We are looking at how we can ensure that goods vehicles can travel safely within the design.

The Dekamarkt entrance remains narrow in the new design

There is no extra space to widen the driveway, as there are houses on both sides.

Can heavy goods vehicles be banned from the junction with 2e Johannastraat?

No, this falls outside the scope of our project plan and we will not be including it in the refurbishment.

Will the speed limit on this street be reduced?

We are introducing a number of speed-reducing measures, such as noise-reducing paving stones, speed bumps and raised junctions.

Could this street become a cycle street?

No, the number of cyclists is too low in relation to the number of cars and lorries.

Could a roundabout be built on Laan van de Mensenrechten?

No, this is outside the project area of the 1st Wormenseweg.

Where can residents park whilst the works are taking place?

We will decide this together with the contractor. Local residents will be notified in good time.

Will businesses remain accessible whilst the work is being carried out?

The works will be carried out in several phases, so that businesses and local residents remain accessible as far as possible.

How long will the work take?

The work is expected to take about a year. The final schedule has not yet been announced.

What sort of lighting will there be?

We are drawing up a lighting plan, in accordance with the Apeldoorn standard.

Have the lampposts already been included in the design?

We will include the lighting plan in the final design.

The junction with Reigersweg is very difficult to see around; mirrors would be a great help

The junction has been made narrower in the design to make it clearer and safer.
