The new school playground:
- Encourages physical activity
- Offers both tranquillity and a connection with nature, creative forms of play and adventurous physical activity
- Is smoke-free
- Is open to the public until at least 8.00 pm
- Is at least 50% of the surface unpaved
- Is it climate-resilient?
- Existing healthy trees will be incorporated into the design, and there will be no hard surfacing beneath the tree canopy
- The design complies with the local authority’s cycle parking standard
- There are loose natural materials on the square (sand, branches, stones, etc.)
Obligations
- The school playground will be refurbished within one year of the grant being awarded. This may be extended by one year.
- Under the new design, rainwater is disconnected from the sewer system. The local authority will cover any costs involved. You are required to cooperate with the local authority to carry out this disconnection.
The grant is not intended for:
- School playgrounds that are due to be newly built or extensively renovated within four years
- Volunteer costs
- Labour costs for in-house staff
- Costs of artificial grass

The grant consists of two parts: the design and the construction, including any maintenance. You will only receive a grant for maintenance if the square has been constructed in accordance with the submitted design.
- up to €70,000
- for 80% of the costs relating to design, construction, materials and/or maintenance.
- up to €4,000 for the design.
Closing date
The 2025 funding round will start shortly, around mid-September. You can submit an application until 31 October 2025. You will then receive confirmation that your application has been received. The assessment committee will review your application.
Digital base map
The design requires a digital base map: a scale map of the school building and playground from the Large-Scale Topography Register, an aerial photograph on the same scale as the map, and the elevation map (AHN 3.0). The local authority will provide you with the base map. To request this, please send an email to Schoolpleinen@Apeldoorn.nl.

- Seek help from experienced organisations, such as Jantje Beton, and the Gelderland Sports Federation. You can include the costs of this support in the budget.
You will receive the grant as follows:
- The local authority will reimburse 80% of the design costs. To claim this, you must submit the invoice and proof of payment for the design costs.
- You will receive an advance of 80% from the grant to cover installation and any maintenance costs. The remainder of the grant will be paid to you on the basis of your expenditure report.
