When residents of Apeldoorn need care, it must be of a high standard and reliable. That is why Apeldoorn City Council checks whether care providers are complying with the rules and delivering good care. We call this supervision. Good, reliable care is often provided, but unfortunately fraud does occur in the healthcare sector too. When this happens, residents do not receive the care they so desperately need. In such cases, it is important for the council to intervene.
Supervision of healthcare
We check whether:
- high-quality care is
- healthcare providers comply with laws and regulations
- care funding is spent wisely
Regulators investigate healthcare providers in various ways:
- through spot checks (where there are no indications)
- following reports or complaints
- through checks on records and working methods
If necessary, we will take action. This might include, for example, adjusting our working methods, recovering funds or terminating a contract.
The local authority works in partnership with other local authorities in the region. Supervisory bodies from the Midden-IJssel/Oost-Veluwe Healthcare Region (which includes Apeldoorn) checks whether care providers are complying with the rules and whether care is being provided effectively. The local authority also has its own inspectors. They monitor, for example, personal care budgets (pgb) and care provided outside of contracts.
To ensure the quality of care provided under the Social Support Act (Wmo), the local authority works in partnership with the North and East Gelderland Municipal Health Service (GGD). The quality of youth support is monitored by the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ). Any serious problems or incidents of violence must always be reported to the appropriate organisation.
