Open discussion
These discussions should provide answers to questions such as: How would you like to grow old yourself? What can you do for older people in your community? What do you expect from your loved ones, your neighbourhood or the government? And are those expectations realistic? What can you already put in place for yourself? What can you do now for your parents, so that both you and they can grow old comfortably in the future? The conversation can also provide an opportunity to offer information or highlight where residents with specific needs can turn for help.
Thinking things through beforehand
Through this campaign, the organisations involved aim to encourage residents to start talking about ageing. Thinking about their wishes and options in advance should ensure that residents are able to make choices in good time. This helps them to live independently for longer, retain control over their own lives, and build and maintain a social network.
Sharing valuable information
By engaging in dialogue, the organisations in this network gain valuable information from residents. They can use this information to adapt their services or clarify the information they provide.
